India Freezes $1.8M in Global Assets Linked to Fugitive Mehul Choksi

Indian authorities have frozen more than $1.8m (ยฃ1.4m) in assets belonging to fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said the assets include land, residential and commercial properties, and bank accounts across 16 countries, including the US, UK, UAE, and Switzerland.

Choksi, who holds Antiguan and Barbudan citizenship, is wanted in India over the $2bn (ยฃ1.6bn) Punjab National Bank fraud case, along with his nephew Nirav Modi.

Modi remains in a UK prison fighting extradition, while Choksi is contesting Indiaโ€™s request for his return.

Both face charges of fraud, money laundering, and corruption.
