National sprinter, Joella Lloyd, is ‘excited’ following a strong start to the 2025 track season, where she registered a new national record over 60 meters Indoor with a time of 7.13 second at the Celebration Pointe Classic at held at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida over the weekend.
Lloyd, who formerly represented the University of Tennessee but now runs for the Florida State, bettered the national record of 7.15 seconds set in 2021.
Speaking with Observer media following the feat, Lloyd exuded confidence while setting her focus on The 20th World Athletics Indoor Championships due to be held from March 21 to 23 in Nanjing, People’s Republic of China.
“I am really excited to see how this season progresses. This is the most healthy I’ve felt in a long time and that time [7.13] is testament to the amount of hard work me and my coaches have been putting in during the off season. The plan is to do some more indoor meets and gear up for World Indoors,” she said.
Lloyd said maintaining a positive mindset heading into the race was key to her success in the end.
“There is a lot of external factors that were [swaying] my attitude but at the end of the day I wanted to run fast and I knew that I was capable of doing that. My strength in the race was my transition because usually I like to get up and start running after 10 meters but I was patient and I gave myself time to reach my maximum velocity and remain with that for the rest of the race. One thing that I would change is running through the line. I was a little bit intimidated by the bank [raised track curves] so I stopped running before the line so that is what I would change,” she said.
Lloyd also holds the indoor record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.38 ran at the Bob Pollock meet in the USA in January, 2023. She is also the holder of the 100 and 200 meters outdoor records. The Antigua Girls High School alumni clocked 11.06 seconds for a new 100 meters record set in May, 2024 at the NCAA East First Round while setting a 200 meters record of 22.66 at the NCAA Division 1 Championships in 2022.
