Gray Hill Man Barred from Driving for 90 Days After Crashing Car into Police Officer’s Shop

A 35-year-old Gray Hill man who drove a car into a shop, which is owned by a police officer, has been barred from obtaining a driver’s licence for the next 90 days.

Keyan St Claire appeared in St John’s Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason and pleaded guilty to four charges — driving without a licence, driving without insurance, driving without the owner’s consent and careless driving.

St Claire, who was given a vehicle to wash at about 5:30 pm on January 12, decided to take a chance to drop off something to a friend, knowing he did not have a licence.

However, later that evening while he was travelling from west to east, to his destination in All Saints, he misjudged his turn at a junction and ran into a nearby grocery shop, operated by a police officer. He reportedly caused thousands of dollars in damages to the property.

Following investigations he was arrested and charged.

In addition to not being able to obtain a driver’s licence, St Claire was fined a total of $3,000 for the other traffic infractions.
