Antiguan soca artist Claudette Peters-Joseph is set to bring her electrifying talent to Dominica for the island’s 2025 Carnival celebrations, Mas Domnik.
The celebrated performer will headline the Sunrise Breakfast Fete, one of Dominica’s premier Carnival events, scheduled for February 28. This fete is part of two months of vibrant activities leading up to the grand culmination of Mas Domnik.
“I am very thrilled to perform at the Sunrise Breakfast Fete,” Peters-Joseph shared at a press conference on Wednesday. “This is particularly special for me since my mother is from Dominica and my husband is also from Dominica. I’ve had the privilege over the years, you know, meeting with a lot of musicians, artistes from out of Dominica — Asa, Banton, WCK, Nye and the like — and they have made a tremendous contribution to the soca industry.”
Peters-Joseph also encouraged residents of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominicans living abroad, and others in the region to visit Dominica for the Carnival experience.
Two regional airlines—LIAT 2020 and Sunrise Airways—are offering discounted travel packages to make the event more accessible. LIAT is providing a 25 percent discount on flights between January 23 and March 31, while Sunrise Airways offers round-trip specials starting at US $290 for travel within the OECS region. Both airlines recommend early bookings to secure these limited-time offers.
Markerah George, Marketing Executive for the Caribbean at the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) said access to the Nature Island is easier than ever before.
“We currently welcome flights from all major regional airlines, such as WinAir, inter-Caribbean Airlines, LIAT 2020, Sunrise Airways, and Caribbean Airlines, operating from the primary hubs of Barbados, St Martin, and Antigua,” George said.
Caribbean Airlines, she added, also facilitates travel from Trinidad, which provides seamless connections for travellers arriving from the United Kingdom, France, or other locations in Europe. Passengers can conveniently board KLM, Air France, or British Airways and make smooth connections to any of these hubs.
Monelle Alexis, Communications and Public Relations Specialist for the DDA, highlighted the cultural richness of Mas Domnik.
“What truly sets Mas Domnik is our authenticity. This isn’t a copy and paste carnival. It’s the real deal. Seeped in a legacy that dates back to the 1700s,” Alexis remarked. “Mass Domnik is about the connections we make, the stories we share, the joy we create together. And here in Dominica, Carnival is an expression of who we are as a people. It is an invitation to the world to be part of our family”.
Mas Domnik 2025 promises a dazzling showcase of bouyon, calypso, and steel pan rhythms, vibrant costumes, and energetic dances, all while preserving the generational traditions that define Dominica’s Carnival.
