Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer pose serious challenges for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) such as Antigua and Barbuda, impacting both lives and economic resources.
At a recent HEARTS Initiative Workshop, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph emphasized the high prevalence of NCDs in the region. This PAHO-led initiative aims to reduce premature deaths from these diseases and tackle mental health issues in SIDS.
The SIDS4 conference also highlighted the urgent need for global attention to meet Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 3.4. Professor Robinson, Vice Chancellor of UWI, was among the workshop speakers, contributing to the discussion on these critical health issues.
