Four Antiguan team members from Sandals Grande Antigua
Resort and Spa recently graduated with a new surge of confidence in their leadership development skills.
This, after successfully completing a fully-funded Diploma in Hospitality Leadership from the Sandals Corporate University (SCU), offered in partnership with the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism, Florida International University (FIU) and Accelerating Leaders.
They are Club Sandals supervisors Je’Mel Francis and Ieasha Tuitt, sous chef Juleen Rose and assistant weddings manager Meria Govia. Reflecting on the experience the graduates shared how impactful the programme was.
“The classes were designed to not only provide theoretical knowledge of the industry, but also to give us hands-on experience through case studies, group projects, and real-life simulations. This approach helped us to understand the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the industry and how to effectively adapt and respond to its challenges,” assistant weddings manager Meria Govia shared.
“We were also exposed to a diverse range of perspectives and experiences through our lectures. This allowed us to gain a global understanding of the industry and best practices, preparing us
for a successful career in any part of the world,” added sous chef Juleen Rose.
Club Sandals supervisors Ieasha Tuitt and Je’Mel Francis said, “the classes were not only focused on developing our technical skills, but also on nurturing our leadership qualities. We were encouraged to think critically, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively, preparing us to lead teams and manage projects in the future. Overall, the delivery of the classes was comprehensive and well-rounded, providing us with a solid foundation to excel in the fast-paced and competitive world of tourism and hospitality.”
Upon completing the programme the scholarship recipients journeyed to Barbados to receive their diplomas at their graduation ceremony at Sandals Royal Barbados. Learning and Development Manager Carlene Spencer said, “this is a proud moment for our resort here in Antigua, as we continue to see our team members accelerate within their respective departments.”
Sandals Grande Antigua General Manager, David Latchimy who joined the quartet in Barbados for the auspicious event said, “this developmental opportunity afforded by Sandals Corporate University will continue to provide our future leaders with the skills necessary to harness more productive teams.
