PM Browne’s evasion fuels speculation that the USA has flagged national-security dealings with AG Benjamin

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has left more questions than answers – and more suspicions than assurances – in the public domain regarding allegations about Attorney-General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin.

In Parliament on Monday, April 17, Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle asked the prime minister whether the United States Government has indicated that it does not wish to have any sensitive national-security communication go through the attorney-general.

In his usual fashion, Browne first sought to insult the member for All Saints East and St. Luke.  Then he countered by saying if, indeed, such a security issue had been raised by the USA it was not for public discussion.

He did not make any other comment on the issue.

Since then, some residents have said that the manner in which PM Browne responded to MP Pringle would suggest there might be some truth to the rumour.

Knowing Browne, one woman says, had the allegation been untrue he would have said so unequivocally.

However, she adds, because it involves the United States, more information may come out, and he will not be able to control or keep it hidden. (Real News)
