Grenades FC, on Sunday, edged three points closer to their first Premier Division title with an eight-nil (8-0) trouncing of former champions Parham FC when they met in the feature match of a triple-header at the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) technical centre.
The win pushes Grenades to 45 points after 17 showings and two points ahead of All Saints United who have 43 points also after 17 showings. Both teams have two matches remaining with Grenades needing to win both matches to secure the title.
The Jennings team was led by Ridel Stanislas who scored a hattrick with strikes in minutes 12, 62 and 78. There were single strikes from Tev Lawrence in the second minute, Rakeem Henry in minute 14, Barrington Blake in minute 24, Jordan Britto in minute 29 and Keanu Barrette in minute 57.
Parham remain on 21 points after 17 showings and clear of both the relegation and playoff zones.
Meanwhile, All Saints United kept their championship hopes alive with a 6-0 triumph over Greenbay Hoppers.
United had strikes from Ajarnie Thomas who scored twice with goals in minutes 28 and 70 while Leroy Graham (9), Nazir Mc Burnette (74) and Kwazinm Theodore (90) each scored once in the huge victory.
The All Saints team moved to 43 points, remaining just two points behind leaders Grenades. Hoppers are on 22 points from 17 showings at mid-table.
In Sunday’s opening contest, Old Road defeated Willikies Warriors 4-2. Raheem Deterville led the way with a hattrick, scoring in minutes 8, 60 (penalty) and 87, while an own-goal from Omari Hazelwood in minute 48 accounted for Old Road’s other conversion.
Phil Nicholas and James Simon both scored once with Nicholas netting from the penalty spot in minute seven, while Simon, also from the penalty spot, netted in minute 68.
Old Road move to 32 points after 17 showings while Willikes are on 24 points after the same number of showings. (NewsCo)
