Arbour Month 2022: “We are Generation Restoration”

To commemorate Arbour month in November 2022, the Department of Environment (D.O.E.) is encouraging the general public to participate in its tree-planting activities.

The Departments Senior Environment Officer, Daryl George, spoke about the effort for this month’s Arbour day, under the overarching theme “Ride the Climate Wave” and the sub-theme “We are Generation Restoration”.

“Arbour Month is an opportunity by the DOE and its partners to spread awareness about trees and the importance of tree planting, as well as to engage critical stakeholders on local climate change issues and provide solutions and how the community can help to fight and adapt to climate change,” he said.

The objective is for the nation to become carbon-neutral, with more plants grown to produce more oxygen than carbon dioxide each year.

“Choose a local organization, institution, school, or other suitable community resources to help with tree-planting activities.”

George elaborated, “Interested individuals can get involved in this November tree planting exercises by Indicating their availability to work with the D.O.E on any of its tree planting outreach activities.

To register your interest or to receive more information on this and related activities, please contact Mr George at 462-4625 or email at daryl.george@ab.gov.ag.

This year, the government of Antigua Barbuda set aside $100,000.00 to care for 100,000 fruit tree saplings, some of which will be planted across the nation throughout this initiative.

George concluded by saying, “the DOE will be able to provide a limited number of trees, free of cost, for these tree planting exercises,” get involved and join hands together for We are Generation Restoration
