ABWU Celebrated International Mens Day

In order to recognize and celebrate the cultural, political, and social achievements of men, people all over the world mark International Men’s Day (IMD) on November 19.

The Antigua Barbuda Workers Union launched their campaign last week to celebrate this day, extending throughout the month.

In a photo essay that was released together with an informational short video, Chester Hughes, the union’s deputy general secretary, addressed the workplace and health problem of sexual harassment that silently affects men.

The primary goal of the event will be to honour men who have contributed significantly to their families, communities, countries, and unions. Boys and men will be honoured for their lives, accomplishments, and efforts during this time.

In addition, this day will focus on improving public awareness of issues affecting men. “Sexual Harassment is a real workplace issue amongst men and women,” the deputy said.

He explained that “the Antigua Barbuda Workers Union will be bringing to light the issue of sexual harassment against men within the workplace.”

“It is an occupational safety and health issue, which could traumatize any individual whether man or boy.”

“On this international men’s day,” the ABWU is inviting the public to join forces in confronting this workplace health issue by reporting any instances of sexual harassment, whether they involve men or women, Hughes stated.
