Joni Spencer, past student and valedictorian of Antigua Girls’ High School is putting her best foot forward to qualify for the 2023 prestigious Rhodes Scholarship for the Oxford University.
Now a student of Florida International University, Rhodes has made it to the finalist stage and will be interviewed in Barbados for the international postgraduate’s award. Her area of study is STEM, and she hopes to transform science education in Antigua and Barbuda.
In a recent interview with The Observer, Rhodes stated that she was excited about her progress thus far. “I’m really excited about it. I put in a lot of work and I’ve had a very intense process that is unique to myself and I am so thankful to see my work paying off. It’s nice to have that recognition that other people see in me what I see in myself and what my family sees and values,” she said.
According to Wikipedia ‘The Rhodes Scholarship is an international postgraduate award for students to study at the University of Oxford. Established in 1902, it is the oldest graduate scholarship in the world. It is considered among the world’s most prestigious international scholarship programs.’
