Golden Grove resident’s concern with crime in the area

Dear Editor,

I am a single mother living in the Golden Grove are. Over the past 2 weeks, there have been a string of crimes reported in the Golden Grove area, particularly against women.

The reports have come from several news sources, but there has been no conference held, no public alerts issued by police and as usual, not enough investigation and surveillance.

If my memory serves me correctly, two women raped, two robbed, and 3 people issued death threats. There have also been other attempted robberies.

My question is, why hasn’t the police or officials issued some kind of alert to the community and surroundings? Why hasn’t a press briefing been held to give a description of the perpetrators and their crimes in order to raise awareness of the situation?

The fact is that some of us will read the online reports, but there are some residents who may not have access to that. What about them?

Dear Editor- I don’t feel safe as a woman in my own home. I don’t know if a gun brandishing criminal will break into my house and harm me and my daughters.

Like most Antiguans I do not have burglar bars, I can’t afford video surveillance and I don’t’ own a weapon. I am asking the police to let the people know what is being done to keep us safe.

Signed

Golden Grove Resident
