Schools Return to Full Face-Face Classes

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, all schools have returned to full time in person learning.

This development comes as part of the lifting of Covidrestrictions, and brings an end to the unstable teaching and learning conditions experienced for the past two years.

Since 2020, schools had no choice but to operate remotely, or on shift systems. This proved to be a hectic situation for children, parents and teachers.

On Sunday, the twin island state marked a 2-year anniversary of the first recorded Covid-19 case- the start of a roller coaster, which saw over 7000 cases and 135 deaths as a result of the virus.

Although the recent amendments say that mask wearing will be made optional as of this Wednesday, education officials are still urging children and teachers to continue to wear masks.

“I don’t want to accept that no masks will be required,” Director of Education Clare Browne said. “Cabinet talked about making masks optional, but the Ministry of Education is strongly encouraging all students and anyone who operates in schools, particularly indoors, to continue to wear them.”

From March 16, no one will be mandated to wear facemasks in Antigua and Barbuda, However, Residents are urged to wear masks outside in places where there are likely to be crowds.

Those who work are also encouraged to wear their masks as protection.
