On Friday, members of the local media were celebrated by Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa for their outstanding work, consistent coverage and news delivery to the Antiguan and Barbudan public, even in the face of a world pandemic for the last two years.
General Manager of Sandals Grande Antigua Matthew Cornall said, “It was a pleasure to host our valued Antiguan media partners with the resounding message that we thank them for their contributions. We thank them for getting that message out there that Antigua is open for business and with their support, our tourism sector in general including Sandals Grande Antigua continues to experience favourable occupancies. The tourism sector is roaring back and the future demand is looking significantly optimistic. So we celebrate and thank them for helping to bring our island back to some level or normalcy.”
In attendance were journalist, reporters, talk show host and sales teams from all media houses on island at the exclusive cocktail event hosted at the resort’s Mediterranean Village Reflection Pool.
The event featured an array of culinary delights including specially prepared hor’s- dourves from the resorts 5-Star Global Gourmet offerings.
Alongside music there was general camaraderie amongst the media fraternity themselves and resort executives who were on hand to express appreciation for the work of the media partners. The invited guest shared their gratitude to Sandals for taking the time to recognize the profession.
“As a journalist, I am happy that Sandals recognizes the importance of journalist and media to the development of the entire industry. With tourism being Antiguan and Barbuda’s main industry it is important to build and maintain these relationships as we often have to engage with tourism officials and insiders. Therefore getting an opportunity to discuss issues with these officials is always welcomed,” Kadeem Joseph from Newsco Observer Media said.
“Media professionals work hard, long hours and are frequently overlooked and not appreciated for the work they do every day-seven days a week and the role they play in keeping our communities informed. We here at Sandals wanted to raise a glass to them and let them know that we see their work and that we appreciate them,” Sandals Public Relations Manager Leon Norville added.
The attendees were treated to special gift bags compliments the resort’s Public Relations department
