Police investigate break-in and theft at Catholic Church in Willikies, while parishioners say acts violate Lenten Season

A person – or persons – who seem to have no respect for God or man has committed an act of sacrilege at a Catholic church: Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Willikies.

The Police are now probing the criminal act in an effort to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Thieves reportedly targeted the church and stole several items used during Mass to administer the Eucharist – or what is commonly referred to as Holy Communion).

They are also reported to have broken into the church’s tabernacle and have made off with audio equipment and cleaning supplies.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is part of the parish that includes the Roman Catholic churches at Tyrells and in Sea View Farm.

Parishioners are said to be saddened and distressed that this has happened, particularly since they are now observing the solemn season of Lent.

The offence is believed to have occurred between Sunday afternoon, March 27, and Tuesday morning, March 29. (Real News)
