Immigration Department reports that amnesty initiative is proceeding well and announces additional walk-in system

Two weeks into its most recent amnesty programme, the Department of Immigration is reporting that the process has been going quite well and announcing a “walk-in” system.

The amnesty commenced on March 1 and is expected to end on April 30, giving scores of non-nationals living here illegally an opportunity to regularize their status.

The Department says it is rather satisfied with the process, to date, and has been processing, on average, 80 people per day.

Therefore, it has introduced a walk-in system that will operate alongside the system that requires applications.  This, reportedly, is designed to speed up the processing of applications and avoid congestion on the premises.

Persons wishing to access this service must present themselves by 1 p.m. on the day they wish to submit their applications for the process of registering their names.  This will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, officials say.

Those seeking this service are reminded that they should have the required documents in hand.  These include a completed application form, a passport, and a recent photo.

The hours for this service are 2 to 8 p.m Mondays to Fridays.

Meanwhile, the Department says it continues with regular operations for persons seeking extensions and other services. (Real News)
