Local Group Spreads Christmas Cheer

In this season of giving, one small local group decided to give Christmas cheer to a number of Children in Antigua. On Saturday, Youths Arise Antigua hosted a Christmas toy drive in St. Johns which saw a number of children receiving free toys.

In an interview with Antigua Trumpet News, President of the group Makiba Ward expressed what inspired the members to host the event.

“We looked at how the year has been- for younger children we know it has been very hard with the instability of moving between online learning and face-to-face,” she said on Sunday.

She also explained that the initiative was created with the intent of putting a smile on the faces of less fortunate children after such a hectic and financially frustrating year.

“We know that some parents had a very hectic year, many lost their jobs because of the pandemic and have been struggling to make ends meet. We wanted the kids to enjoy the season regardless of their financial situations,” she stated.

Ward also thanked individuals who donated to this cause.

The event was held near Joe Mikes Casino on Corn Alley and Nevis Street and saw at least 100 children from babies to age 8 receive toys.
