Caribbean political leaders attended the COP26, (World leaders Climate change summit) on Monday, November 2, 2021, held in Glasgow Scotland.
Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States announced on the margins of the summit.
“We want to see enhanced objectives, not just rhetoric, and we’re sad that the 1.5-degree target will be exceeded.
He continues, “I mean, for us, it’s a question of survival,” Browne adds, “and the fact that we’re unlikely to accomplish that 1.5 objective – that in itself is a major source of concern for all tiny island governments and the rest of the world.”
Barbados’ Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, caught the full attention of international leaders at the summit when she identified “gaps” in the battle against climate change.
“Large countries have an urgent obligation to reduce the hazards associated with global warming as a result of human activity,” according to Mottley, which they must immediately meet.”
