UN Day described as a historic moment by MP Chet Green

Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Green has described the October 22nd observance of United Nations Day as a historic moment as government officials and UN dignitaries gathered here to celebrate 40 years of the country’s membership within the United Nations.

United Nations Day, which was celebrated on 24 October, and marked the anniversary of the day in 1945 when the UN Charter was entered into force.

The occasion which was marked with a tree planting exercise with the theme “For the Health of People and Planet” highlights the significance of the 2030 goals which are designed to provide a blueprint for shared prosperity in a sustainable world, a world where all people can live productive, vibrant and peaceful lives on a healthy planet Green said.

The minister added that as the world begins to gradually recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, this celebration of UN Day provides the platform for UN membership to strengthen international cooperation for a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.

The principles of peace and security among nations, respect for equal rights and self-determination of peoples, international cooperation in solving economic and social problems and the respect for human rights, enshrined in the UN Charter have served us well Green stated.
