In a poll held by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party ABLP in St. Peter, Rawdon Turner came out on top.
Regis Burton, who was expected to be the party’s general election candidate, was defeated. If the Central Executive confirms Turner, he will replace Asot Michael on the ABLP ticket in the next general election.
Any attempt to replace Asot Michael as the party’s candidate will be legally contested, according to him.
The administration is meeting, and Prime Minister Gaston Browne says alternative candidates for three seats, including All Saints West, would be announced soon.
All major political parties, as well as Michael as an independent candidate, will run for the position of St. Peter.
With full confidence and certainty, Prime Minister Gaston Browne is certain that his party will be able to keep its seat.
However, there are speculations that the matter may have to be determined by the High Court because the present holder of the seat Hon Asot Michael has hinted to the public that he will be taking the matter before the Court.
Turner will come up against the UPP candidate for the area is Tevaughn “Peter Redz” Harriette a national footballer and Asot Michael if he runs Independent, if unsuccessful at the Courts.
The St Peters seat will be a closely watched seat in the upcoming General Election when called, and if lost by the ABLP would be the first time in over 40years the seat would have changed hands.
