Asot Michael: “I once supported Gaston Browne”

Asot Michael has expressed his disappointment and hurt towards General Secretary Maryclare Hurst that she would place her signature to such writings.

Michael the Elected candidate for St.Peter said he is entitled as of right to attend the Central Executive wherever and whenever it meets. I have an obligation and responsibility to represent and advocate for the interest of my Constituency. There is no provision that allows the General Secretary or any other member to exclude me from such meetings as they have done.

As Comrades we will have disagreements within the organisation. In deed, different point of views allows for the Organisation to grow and develop new ideas and positions, but we must at all time adhere to the frame work set out in the constitution. It is an Organisation not a dictatorship.

Michael went on to state, I know I have legal rights which have been breached, I have an injunction which prohibits exactly what they have done and continue to do. I have the option of contempt proceedings, or a new legal action maybe, I am not sure. During the course of this coming week I will seek legal and political counsel form lawyers and constituents and stalwarts of the party and then a make a decision. I am in no hurry to make a decision I want to add water to this fire not gasoline. I cannot expect statesman like behavior from the leaders of the Party and myself not handle the matter in a stateman like way.

With regards to the legal matter Michael explained “Litigation matters can never injure the Party. It is the unlawful actions of Party Heads that is injurious to the Party. This together with the tolerance of pretty members to such behavior. It is the litigation that holds the offending Party members accountable and forces them to adhere to democratic principals and principals of Natural Justice. Each person has the obligation to hold his neighbor accountable and I have the obligation to ensure that my party adheres to these well established principals in a civilized and democratic society”.

As to his candidacy Michael said , “in accordance with the Constitution of the Party I am the candidate for St Peters. There is no doubt. It is also clear that there is an intention to push the constitution aside and do as One Person desires. I will fight to ensure that all are accountable. I love Politics and I love the people of St. Peter who have been loyal and Good to me over the years. I also love my Political Family the ABLP, I can not now readily contemplated not being a member of that family. I have always had a family life growing up so I know the meaning of family and comradeship. Let us not even talk about leaving Family at this time. At this time let us concentrate on fixing what is broken”.

Michael assures all “The positions of Leadership is open to every member of the Party. I once supported Gaston Brown who came from the outside to join the Party and eventually challenged my mentor for leadership. I supported him because I honestly believed at the time that his leadership was right for the Country and the Party at the time.  If in my view  circumstances are such that the Country’s and the Party’s interest are best served by a new leader I would support that person, it is not about who it is, it can only be about what is best for the Nation and the Party”.
