Antigua and Barbuda hosts the Second United Kingdom-Caribbean Chiefs of Defence Conference

Chiefs of Defence from across the Caribbean and the United Kingdom are gathered in Antigua and Barbuda for the Second United Kingdom – Caribbean Chiefs of Defence Conference at the Royalton Resort. 

Chief of Defence Staff of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, Colonel Telbert Benjamin said that the second conference follows on the heels of the virtual conference held in November of 2020 and intends to strengthening the UK-Caribbean relationship and develop concepts for UK engagement with its partners in the Caribbean on mutually agreed issues.

He pointed out that the conference which will be held at the Royalton Hotel and onboard the HMS MEDWAY from the UK Atlantic Patrol Task will cover four key areas to include:

UK context and discussion, covering the UK’s Integrated Review and Defence Command Plan;

Serious and Organised Crime presentation and discussion;

Discussion of Regional Capability Training and Educational Initiatives and desired UK cooperation; and Natural Threats like Hurricanes; Climate; Volcanos; Earthquakes and the combined capacity to respond.

The Conference opening ceremony which was held yesterday, September 2, was addressed by Prime Minister Gaston Browne among other Chiefs of Defence.

The session will ends today.
