Workers in the public and private sector in St Vincent and the Grenadines have been called upon by various trade unions to join in protest action against the government’s proposed amendments to the Public Health (Amendment) Bill with one trade union leader stating, “Let us kill this Bill.”
A joint news conference was held with all the public sector unions on August 3 which included the Public Service Union, the SVG Teachers Union and the Police Welfare Association.
Public Service Union president Elroy Boucher said according to the proposed amendments, the issue of exemptions is being tampered within Section 27 (B) while in Section 43 (b) the word voluntary immunization will be replaced with just “and immunization.”
The PSU president believes these amendments infringe on their right to belief, rights and the freedom to choose what goes into their bodies.
Boucher said the union is not anti-vac but pre-choice.
He has made a call for all public and private sector workers to resist the amendments and demand they be withdrawn by joining in protest action outside the parliament tomorrow.
