Johnson and Johnson vaccine adds to more COVID-19 vaccine options for Antigua and Barbuda

Residents of Antigua and Barbuda now has the option of five COVID-19 vaccines to choose from.

On August 27, the country received a shipment of 38,400 single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines which were procured from the African Medical Supply Platform and facilitated by the CARICOM Secretariat.

There is no shortage of vaccines on the island as the government continues its quest to vaccinate at least 70,000 people to achieve herd immunity.

Persons have expressed a preference in the vaccine they wish to be administered and with the government now in possession of AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sputnik V and now Johnson and Johnson it is anticipated that there will be an increase in the vaccination figures.

There is also hope from health officials that there will be a decrease in vaccine hesitancy.

Since the start of the vaccination drive on February 17, over 33,000 persons are fully immunized while approximately 7,000 are partial.
