Brazil to host FIBA AmeriCup 2022

The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas has selected Brazil as the host country for the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 that will be played in September 2022.

The FIBA AmeriCup is the most prestigious competition for senior men’s basketball in the Americas, and from September 2-11, 2022, the FIBA AmeriCup will tip-off its 19th edition. The tournament returns to Brazil for the first time since 1984, when it was held in Sao Paulo and the FIBA Hall of Famer, Oscar Schmidt led the hosts to gold.

The region’s top competitors will represent the colors of the following twelve (12) countries: Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela, Virgin Islands, United States, and the host nation Brazil.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to return to the country of Brazil to play the FIBA AmeriCup 2022. FIBA and the CBB have been working together for a long time and now have a very structured and inspiring plan to bring this event to Brazil next September,” said the Executive Director of FIBA in the Americas, Carlos Alves.

The 2017 edition saw USA get crowned as champions in the first-ever FIBA AmeriCup held in three separate countries, Argentina, Colombia & Uruguay.
