Amid an increase in robberies in Antigua and Barbuda over the past few weeks, Attorney General and Public Safety Minister Steadroy Benjamin say persons can expect to see an increase in police patrols from June 30.
Benjamin met with the top brass of the police force on June 28 where several strategies to curb crime on the island was discussed.
“By midweek this week we will observe a significant presence of police officers in and around the city especially between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm daily from Monday to Saturday and from the evening from 5 pm to 7 am,” Minister of Public Safety, Steadroy Benjamin said.
“There will be police presence all over the different districts outside of the city. We will reintroduce trained police officers on bicycles.
Government support and resources will be made available for the police,” Benjamin added.
The Minister for Public Safety ended by stating that all Police Officers who are presently on static duty in different institutions and government buildings will be placed on patrol in and around the city.
