The discussion on the possibility of an early election continues to gain momentum in the media and Member of the Free and Fair Election League Bishop Rolston Jeffery is adding his voice to the conversation.
According to him the League is of the view that there should be a set date for the general election.
“We are of the view that it is time for us to reform the electoral system, in that we have a fixed day election. In that way people know exactly when they have to go and vote, they can plan for it,” Bishop Jeffery says.
”We do not believe that it is the prerogative of any prime-minister to call election at his whims and fancies. We do not support that at all,” he added.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne continues to tease that the elections could be called at any moment since he has the leeway to make that decision.
He has also put his colleagues on notice that they should be prepared.
The leader of the United Progressive Party Harold Lovell says his party is ready in the event the election is called soon and says he is confident that the UPP will form the next government.
The party only has 1 seat in the Lower House of Representatives, that of Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle.
