A fire officer accused of stealing money from the Chinese employees of the XPZ Supermarket reportedly has been given an ultimatum by his superiors.
A Police source has confirmed that the officer was told he should resign now – which would secure his pension – or be criminally charged and “lose all his years of service.”
The source further confirms allegations that the fireman took a small safe from the living quarters of the Chinese nationals, reportedly with the assurance that it would be turned over to the authorities.
When asked about the safe, later, the source alleges that the fire officer presented it, with some US currency and at least one piece of jewelry. However, the source claims that EC$9,000 was missing.
The insider alleges that the fireman had prised open the safe and helped himself to the cash, which reportedly was recovered during a search of the officer’s premises.
Lawmen also discovered an unlicensed firearm among other questionable items at the fire officer’s home, the Police insider alleges.
The man is said to be a long-serving officer who is still in the Force only because the age of retirement was recently extended. However, the source alleges that he has “a reputation for all kinds of nefarious activity.”
It is not yet known whether the fire officer has decided which option he will choose: retirement or criminal charges.
