Barbuda Council needs more to help the Sister Isle, cries a Council member.

Member of the Barbuda People’s Movement, McKenzie Frank says while the Barbuda Council would like to do more to assist the small number of persons still living in tents on the sister isle since Hurricane Irma there is not much they can do.

“The council has been fixing back certain rules that could be retained by them. It has extended its hands to the families and households where the repair is minor. So we have been working to try and assist in this,” Frank said.

He blames the Council’s lack of resources to assist these individuals on the central government failed to meet its financial obligation to the people of Barbuda.

”For the financial of the Council, it has been difficult. If you still owe workers thirty plus weeks plus a further nine that was done after while the ABLP group was in power in the council, you can understand the constraint that the Barbuda Council has been put under financially, that is large because the government has not been paying the transferred grant to the Barbuda Council in a timely manner,” BPM member, McKenzie Frank ended by saying.
