Visitors want assurances that Hotel Workers are Vaccinated

Approximately 1,900 of 3,600 hotel workers have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

This is according to the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association who were invited to the last Cabinet meeting and informed that potential visitors have been inquiring about the status of vaccination of workers in that sector.

The industry has been saying to the Hotel operators that their guest wants assurances that when they arrive here that the persons who are applying services to them in the hotel are inf act persons who have been vaccinated.

Information Minister, Melford Nicholas in speaking to the press gave detail as to the Cabinet’s conversation with the Chairperson of the Association.

“The Executive Chairperson has said that prior to February last year the sector had employed directly approx five hundred persons. After the first shut down and then the reopening they have gotten up to thirty-six hundred persons in the sector.”

“The Chairperson has indicated that their records have revealed that up until this time only one thousand nine hundred of those persons have come forward and have been vaccinated,” Nicholas added.

“There is a clear disruptive challenge that they are going to be faced with in terms of having to be reopened in the coming week expecting guest where the expectations are going to be set around persons vaccinated so they have to do some internal work,” Information Minister said.
