To prevent the importation of new strains of Coronavirus in Antigua and Barbuda, a travel ban has been placed on three countries.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has identified India among those countries that travellers from there will be barred from entering the state.
The Covid situation in India is dire with thousands of new cases and deaths recorded daily.
“I just gave instructions for India, South Africa as well as Brazil for the people who are travelling from those countries within 14 days of their travel to Antigua and Barbuda that they should be excluded from travelling here,” Brown said.
“That is to protect us from the importation of these deadly strains because that will make our situation far more challenging. We are not even allowing them to travel here and then try and manage it because the Indian strain seems to be extremely deadly,” PM Brown added.
