Public Health Nurse says there are other shots to be taken

While the focus seems to be on the Coronavirus vaccine, Public Health Nurse Denise Williams says there are many other shots that the population must take.

This week marked the start of Vaccination Week of the America’s under the theme “vaccines bring us together.”

“We offer the Pentavalent which is Diptheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenza B, we offer measles, mumps, rubella, we offer the inactivated poliovirus vaccine, oral polio, infant Diptheria tetanus, adult DP, varicella, HPV, and we give specifically pneumococcal vaccine which is given to children that are positive to sickle anaemia,” Nurse Williams stated.

Vaccination week ends on April 30th

Meanwhile, as it pertains to the COVID-19 vaccine, Williams says the response is a bit slow.

“The response is slow at the moment bearing in mind that the first phase of the vaccine program went quite well. So we had a break and now that we are getting back into the height of things, persons who would have not made up their mind in the first phase are now making up their mind.”

“So we have to be constantly reminding them of the importance of getting vaccinated. For this week it has been slow but we foresee the continued advocacy, encouragement and reminder of the importance of getting vaccinated,” Nurse Williams emphasized.
