Fire Officer remains Hospitalized after Fire Tender Crash

A Fire Officer attached to the Coolidge Fire Station at the V.C Bird International Airport is currently at the Mount St. John Medical Center receiving medical treatment, following a crash with one of the airport’s Fire Tenders.

It was reported that around 9:10 am on Monday 5th April 2021, a 43-year-old male Fire Officer was in the process of carrying out daily routine inspection and operation test of the Tender, when he apparently lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle sped across the airstrip and breached the south-eastern portion of the airport’s perimeter fence and crashed into the Burma drain. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital via Ambulance. The Fire Tender was extensively damaged.

However, the incident did not hamper operations at V.C Bird International; as flights were able to operate as scheduled. Further investigations are ongoing by the relevant agencies.
