Cabinet to decide on closure of ALL SCHOOLS, as Ministry of Education close Princess Margaret School today

Ministry of Education has decided to close the Princess Margaret School today as yet another teacher has tested positive for the Covid-19 Virus.  Trumpet News understands that the decision to close the school was made late yesterday after Ministry Officials got the news that the teacher in question, who was on quarantine, result returned positive, contact tracing has begun at the institution.

Meanwhile, our Newsroom has been reliably informed that an emergency meeting is now scheduled with the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers, Ministry of education Officials, Ministry of Health Officials and the Cabinet, where a decision as to whether or not, ALL SCHOOLS should now be closed based on this most recent developments.

Minister of Education Daryl Matthew, did inform the general public during an interview on State Media,  Monday evening that a decision would be made within 48 hours however as to where schools would be closed.  “It was necessary to meet with stakeholders in Education including the Teachers Union and Health Officials before any final decision, we are now at that point,” said Minister Matthew in an interview with Trumpet News.

Trumpet News further understand that a meeting with various school  Principals and Ministry Officials was held yesterday to update the Ministry on developments at various School Plants and to get their view as to the way forward from the head of the various Institutions.
