Bernard Warner is far from satisfied with the pace of Government’s implementation of the framework that will allow disabled persons to gain access to businesses and proper parking facilities.
Warner, who is President of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, says access is still a major challenge to most of the members of his community.
The reason for this, he speculates, is that the society has not truly embraced – nor does it understand – the legal framework that governs building codes.
He is therefore calling on Attorney-General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin to address these issues and that of disability parking.
Further, Warner believes that Government lacks the political will to ensure that access to business places is as easy for the disabled as it is for the able-bodied
He also lays some blame on the Police.
