Two men were today sentenced to spend a few months in the Her Majesty’s Prison for similar offenses.
One, Jamie Title was charged with two counts of escaping lawful custody and one count of malicious damage.
He broke of the St. John’s Police Station on November 28 and then November 29 by removing a few burglar bars.
Title told the court that he was being badly beaten by the police and decided to run.
But noting that he has a record, Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh ordered him to spend two months in jail.
Eustace Lovell was also sentenced for escaping lawful custody. He got three months.
But he was also facing several other charges such as failing to wear a face mask, malicious damage, breaking and entering, being armed with an offensive weapon. He was given three months for all of the offenses except malicious damage where he got 6 months.
His sentences were ordered to run concurrently so he will spend only 6 months in jail.
Lovell broke into shop at the East Bus station using a crowbar in July of this year. He was spotted by an eye-witness who contacted the near by fire station and described him.
He was apprehended sitting near the shop and was arrested and later charged.
