A Consent Order was enter into the records of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, in the High Court of Justice today, paving the way for the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union to further their claim against Jolly Beach Cooperation for over 2million dollars in outstanding wage increase adjustments, Thrift Fund owed to Employees and outstanding Dues owed to the Union which were deducted from the employees wages.
The Consent Order also allowed for the Workers to receive interest at the rate of 2.5% per annum from the date of filing and 5%per annum payable on the reducing balance from the date of the Consent Order.
The Matter which was filed in July 2019 by Attorney Justin Simon of Chancellor Chamber on behalf of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union representing over 300 employees.
Trumpet News reached out to Deputy General Secretary of the Union Chester Hughes who told us “now it going to be a battle to collect on behalf of the workers”.
“We will be in further dialogue with our Attorneys to examine all our options and will be meeting with employees soon to outline the options on the way forward” Hughes said.
The Jolly Beach Hotel has been closed since March 2020 due to the covid -19 Pandemic and the employees has since been home.
The Union Representative also explained that they will be forwarding the Severance claims to the Court in the coming week. The Hotel owes the employees over 5million dollars in Severance and Vacation payments.
