Returning nationals will have to make the neccassry financial provisions as the government has revealed their intent to revert back their initial policy of $100 per day for meals.
Information Minister Melford Nicholas further revealed that the initial fees will come back on stream for those in quarantine as a way of easing the financial strain on the government.
“Persons who are returning here to Antigua where they are not going to be permitted to quarantine at their homes but in the public facility they will be required and we are reverting back to our initial position, they will be required to pay that $100 EC dollars per day for their meals,” Nicholas said earlier today at the Post Cabinet Press Briefing.
Because of this, he is advising returning nationals to make the relevant preparations when returning home.
Regarding the government quarantine facility, the Jolly Beach Hotel has been identified as the newest safe zone.
The hotel is not presently being used.
This pronouncement was forced to be made after the Halcyon hotel which was used as one of the government’s quarantine facilities for the past three months indicated their intent to undergo renovations.
This is just the second facility which has ceased to house persons in 14-day quarantine, as earlier this year, the Hawksbill hotel in Five Islands, had informed government officials that they would no longer want to facilitate this practice.
That resulted in those few persons in quarantine being moved to the Halcyon hotel.
Presently, only 14 persons are in the government quarantine facilities.
