Case withdrawn against man charged with illegal dumping near Royalton

George Purcell, who was charged  in February for dumping rubbish on lands adjacent to Royalton, was set free today just moments into his trial.

The Prosecution called its first witness, a little warden who upon being cross examined by Defense Attorney Wendel Robinson, broke the defense’s case wide open.

She stated that Purcell was independently contracted by Royalton and the land that he would have placed the garbage on also belonged to the Resort.

Under the Litter control and prevention Act of 2019: “A person commits an offence if that person deposits and leaves any litter or waste in any premises owned or occupied by another.”

And because the garbage being dumped belonged to the land owner, the prosecution could offer no other evidence in the trial against Purcelle.

Meanwhile,Ramey Brown who is facing the same charge is scheduled to return to court on January 28, 2021.
