A phone repair man by the name of Kashiff Colins has been fined $1500 for stealing a phone screen from one of his coworkers’ phone and several items from the same store in which he worked.
The convict was employed at ‘Dats Trending’ on Redcliffe street from about August this year. During this time, one of his coworkers gave him a Samsung phone to repair and he examined the phone and told her that her battery was defective.
She consequently ordered a replacement and gave it to him. Sometime later she observed that the screen of the phone was missing so she inquired and he said he did not know where it was.
The woman therefore reported the matter to the police. The screen was valued at $200. On another occasion, the owner of the phone shop also noticed several items missing from an area close to where Colins was stationed.
The owner also received several negative reports from customers about Colins. The matter was reported to the police and Colins was subsequently arrested. The missing items included sim unlock chips, chargers, phone screens and several other items totaling $1255.
Colins pleaded guilty in the St Johns Magistrate Court today and was ordered to compensate the woman $200 for the screen he stole and pay $1300 for the items he took from the store. Should he fail to pay, he will spend 2 months and 6 months in jail respectively.
