Ngozie Beaton was hit with a stroke of luck yesterday as she was reprimanded and discharged for stealing almost $300 in groceries from the Epicurean Supermarket.
The former teacher went to the Frairs Hill Road establishment on November 14 and stole a quantity of items which were recovered by the police.
The woman was caught on camera leaving with two bags of goods which she did not pay for and the police were brought in to investigate.
The 41-year-old told Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh that she and her husband are presently unemployed and have three children. But she said: “I am still trying to figure out what went wrong with me.”
She also revealed that her husband has refused to speak to her since the incident. The Magistrate was lenient with the woman and reprimanded and discharged her.
Meanwhile, Brian Cognet will be sentenced tomorrow for breaking and entering into a Five Islands home and stealing more than $8000 in cash and items. The items stolen on February 11, include two television, rings, necklaces, watches, a laptop and laptop bag, headphones and so on.
Three men from Clare Hall were also arrested by police on suspicion of larceny of building materials on November 17. The Police executed a search warrant on a property in Clare Hall, and found the men in possession of two wooden doors, one blue portable generator, eight bags of cement, five boxes of tiles, two buckets of paint, two bags of concrete nails and four metal electrical outlets.
