A trial date sometime next year now awaits 20-year-old Ashbirth Damian O’Brien since his case was committed to the January assizes of the High Court today.
In June 2020, police arrested and charged O’Brien of Parliament Street Grays Farm for allegedly trying to kill Miguel George, also of Parliament Street with a piece of concrete block.
The accused allegedly used the object to inflict a wound to George’s head on the evening of June 5th on the same street where they both lived.
But in October in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court the charge of attempted murder was reduced to a lesser but still indictable charges of causing grevious bodily harm.
Obrien, who is represented by Attorney Warren Cassel, was also granted bail that day in the sum of $5000 with a $1500 cash component.
Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh also asked to surrender his travel documents, present two sureties and report to the Grays Farm Police station twice a week.
Today, three pieces of evidence were tendered for the High Court proceedings.
