Case involving Eighteen-year-old charged wounding with intent to murder committed to January assizes

Eighteen -year-old Daniel Westford of Pointe area will  have to report the High Court for his next hearing since  a Magistrate determined that there is enough evidence for the matter to go to trial.

Westford who was charged with wounding with intent to murder appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday for his committal hearing.

He allegedly got into a fight with 25-year-old Lashaune Charles, also of Point on August 8.

At around 10:30 pm that day the complainant and the accused reportedly met and confronted each other at a restaurant while buying food.

The complainant is said to have left and returned with a cutlass.

The accused was reportedly waiting outside for the complainant with a knife which he used to stab him, several times before fleeing the scene.

The police were alerted and the accused was later arrested and charged with the offense.
