Sports fraternity comes together to mourn and praise Debo Williams, Football Association’s Technical Director

Condolences continue to pour in following the passing of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Technical Director, Rolston “Debu” Williams.

Despite being ill for some time, Williams’ passing on Wednesday morning, October 14, was considered to be sudden.

Joseph “Jojo” Apparicio – who has had a turbulent professional relationship with Williams over the years said that he and members of his team are saddened by the news.

Apparicio says the death came as a surprise, adding that despite their many differences on football, they both wanted what was best for the sport.

Apparicio says he hopes that Williams’ memory will be honoured, and he suggests the newly reopened Technical Centre be renamed in his memory.

Also speaking highly of Williams is the host of Progressive Sports, Denmore Roberts. Roberts says that Debo had promised to make an appearance on the show once he had gotten his place together for going forward with football.

Roberts extends condolences to Williams’ family.

Captain of the National Football Team Tevaughn “Peter Redz” Harriette also expresses his profound sadness at Williams’ passing.

Meanwhile, Political Leader of the United Progressive Party and Candidate for St. John’s City East Harold Lovell sent out condolences to Williams’ family on behalf of the Fort Road Football Club.

Saying he is both shocked and saddened by Williams’ passing, Lovell says Debo “will be remembered as a brilliant coach and tactician” who gave his all to the sport, “and got the best out of his players.”
