Tevaughn Harriette is welcoming Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s recent visit to St. Peter – and, especially, to Parham Town – while noting that Browne realizes the constituency is slipping from the grasp of the Antigua Labour Party (ALP).
Browne made a site inspection of Parham on Thursday and reportedly concluded that the historic town is in an advanced state of dilapidation, with poor infrastructure and public facilities.
Accordingly, he left the people with promises to fix the roads, make some improvements to the clinic, and demolish the police station.
But Harriette, the United Progressive Party’s Candidate for St. Peter, is not fooled by the attention, which follows a high-profile falling-out between Browne and Asot Michael, the constituency representative.
Harriette says the Prime Minister’s sudden interest is prompted by the work he and his constituents have been putting into the community – thereby weakening the hold of the ALP, and, as he puts it, signalling there is “trouble in town.”
The young UPP Candidate says he welcomes help for the community and his Party, whether from Browne or otherwise. However, the assistance needs to be constituency-wide, he says.
Affectionately known as “Peter Redz,” Harriette concludes by reminding his constituents that the Browne Administration is not a proactive one; rather, it is reacting only because it recognizes the threat his candidacy poses.
