Dr. Jose Humphreys is highlighting the need to donate blood, which, he says, can practically save a life.
Dr. Humphreys says it is critical for the hospital to have blood in stock. In cases of emergency, it can be accessed immediately and thereby avoid a delay in someone receiving life-saving care.
While donations by all persons is encouragd, Dr. Humphreys says there are some persons who should not take part in the drive, including those with an already-low blood count.
Meanwhile, the turnout at the Red Cross’ blood-donation drive was overwhelming, as scores of people showed up to lend support to the initiative. However, the actual collection of blood could have been better, it was noted.
Nonetheless, the Red Cross is grateful to persons who came out and took part.
A similar drive is expected to be held on World AIDS Day, December 1, in partnership with the AIDS Secretariat
