The Police remain tight-lipped over reports that a civilian working at the St. John’s Police Station bar has been infected with the COVID-19 virus.
On Monday, October 26, that the bar was closed, and that Health officials were on site conducting inquiries, as contact tracing has commenced.
The source tells our News Department that the woman, who is reportedly of Hispanic descent, was tested positive on October 8.
However, reports say she continued to work, and was also seen at the gun range at the Sir Wright George Police Academy.
George Wehner broke the news on Monday during the Midday broadcast on Progressive FM.
Members of the Force did not want to confirm or deny the reports, and calls to Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney and Public Relations Officer Frankie Thomas went unanswered.
This is not the first bar to be exposed to the virus. Health Minister Molwyn Joseph says a female worker at another bar showed up for work knowing she was sick, and potentially exposed about 100 persons to the illness.
Joseph has since cautioned bar owners to exercise extreme care during operations, since an infection has the potential to close down their business.
Chief Health Inspector Sharon Martin has complained that bar operators are not being compliant with the protocols and guidelines governing COVID-19.
