Deputy Governor of the Central Bank to address Unions delegate Conference on Monday

Deputy Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Mr. Trevor Braithwaite will on Monday address the Annual Delegates Conference of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union. The Conference which is been scaled down to a One-day activity will review the work of the Union while addressing issues faced by the Union’s Membership over the past year. Mr. Braithwaite will give the Union’s Delegates an overall Economic outlook of the impact of the Pandemic on the National Economy and future of work.

General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union David Massiah said, “this Conference is been held at a very difficult time for the Organization and our Membership, having just had the celebrations for the late Sir Keithlyn Smith, our Second and longest serving General Secretary. The challenges faced by our members as a result of the Covid Pandemic is devastating, a number of our members from various Sectors are still unemployed, especially in the Hospitality and Aviation sectors”.

Delegates will come from a cross section of the Union’s Membership who are still gainfully employed.  The Union’s Conference will also approve the Audited Financial Statement for the next year. There will be no Election of Officers at the conference. The Conference is been held under the theme: “Workers facing Unknown Challenges Together – Covid-19 and Beyond”.
