Yasco Sports Complex still not ready

On the heels of national sprinter CJ Greene  clocking 10.38 seconds to win the 100m at the American Track League held in Atlanta Georgia, the nation’s lone track & field facility is still awaiting completion.

The Yasco Sports Complex, home to the National Inter-schoolsChampionship have been closed to the public for a number of years and there seem to be no end in sight. The facility was closed to facilitate the laying of a new track surface, but after several years the work is yet to be completed.

If other national hopefuls are to emulate Greene, they will have to seek other avenues of improving their athletic ability’s rather than at Yasco.  The facility was expected to be completed early this year after workmen from Mondo were on island to supervise the laying down of the international track.

The spread of the Covid 19 pandemic however put a stop to the work.  Five months later and with the country’s airport opened, the Mondo representatives have not returned to complete the process.

So for now, aspiring athletes will have to wait and see what happens next? One thing is certain a lot of work is needed to have the facility up and running to meet the standard that is necessary for  regional and international competition.
