Should hotel workers be tested for Covid 19?

The Antigua and Barbuda Hotel and Tourism Association and the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union have written to Prime Minister Gaston Brown seeking an audience with him along with Minister of Health Molwyn Joseph, Minister of Labour Steadroy Benjamin and Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez to discuss the Question of testing of Hotel Employees as they prepare for the further reopening of a number of hotels for the upcoming Winter Season.

In their letter to the Prime Minister both organizations state: “We would like to discuss, as a matter of priority, the testing of employees for COVID-19”.  Part of the reason stated for the meeting is the Health, Safety and Welfare of Hospitality Employees and their families – Ensuring the reduction of community spread and protecting them and their families.

Since the opening of the airport a number of Hotels have reopened and Airlines returned to Antigua and Barbuda causing over 1000 employees to be back on the job, other hotels are set to begin reopening in October this year while other airline are set to resume flight to Antigua and Barbuda.
